Prof. Jayanta Kumar Ghosh was a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Roorkee. Prof. Ghosh departed this world in July 2023, leaving behind a legacy of intellectual excellence, mentorship, and a profound impact on the lives of countless students and colleagues.ICGCE-2024 was his dream project, which unfortunately he could not pursue due to his untimely demise.

Prof. Ghosh received his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from IIEST Shibpur, Howrah in 1984. He obtained his master’s degree from IIT Kanpur in 1990 and PhD degree from IIT Roorkee in 1997. He had vast teaching experience. He served as a faculty in the Geomatics Section of the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Roorkee during 1998-2023. His research interests were Geodesy, Surveying, Remote Sensing and Artificial Intelligence. He also worked as a joint faculty at Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. He supervised more than 10 PhD students and about 50 MTech students. He was awarded scholarships by agencies like DAAD and European Union and honoured by academic and scientific bodies like Indian Society of Remote Sensing, Institute of Engineers India and International Federal of Surveyors Denmark. He published more than 50 scientific papers and authored three books on Surveying and Geomatics. He delivered special lectures at various national and international bodies and attended many scientific conferences. His contributions are invaluable and dated in history.
